  • STEAMPUNK

Orient and Plato, Alternative Victorian Fiction

Two Steampunk regions that are ongoing works in progress, but visitors are always welcome to drop by to see how things are progressing, or just for a chat. The main aim is to create an atmosphere, of an alternative Victorian Fiction. The warehouse on Orient 'Vbinnia's Emporium' is close to what I want to achieve. The Docks on Plato are also moving in the right direction. Enjoy your visit!

3RG Community Update

So ....what's the difference between the Grid and the Community Core (C-Core)?

Recently we have had some developments about how the Community input into the grid  is managed, and especially about  C-Core. I have had a lot of concerned folk asking questions, and therein  lies the problem, because it would appear that a lot of our residents are not aware of the difference between the  grid and core, and it is causing some confusion.

3RG has always been a friendly and creative grid and the management gave over 25 sims free of charge for the community to use as they wished. This was managed by the Community Volunteer Force (Elders and Seniors)  and was separate from grid management and owners who are running 3RG the business.

On those 25 sims we created over many years, a space where we could hold community events, and our citizens enjoyed creating some amazing builds for us, for example, the Telescope at Lynn and AeroSound Shell, the Museum and the Libraries. More recent examples Torben Asp built his Earthereal  space Station above Aero and Kered and I the Ballroom on Hunter, all with community approval.

So all of the core builds were made by the community, and overseen by the community at our monthly meetings. So C-Core is the communities own creation and we were entrusted to manage and use it as we felt appropriate as laid out in the Community Charter. The owners only stepping in if we were to do anything on the core that would bring the grid into disrepute.

Sadly we have had a temporary dip in the people who want to assist in managing C-Core and those who were left were finding it very difficult to balance their real life with virtual life, and so the situation became unmanageable, and had no choice but to stand down - not because we didn't believe in the C-Core dream: we were just tired out.  The grid continues to grow and prosper and  so for the moment C-Core has gone back under the owners control.

Isn't that a step backwards you may say. Does that mean the community model was a failure? Well yes and no. We proved that with the right people with the right qualities we could successfully run C-Core, but they also 'ran out of steam' and we need to spread the load wider. And this is where you the citizens of 3RG come in.

You don't have to be a fabulous builder, scripter, an expert in sculpting or an educator to help in community affairs - although these qualities are very welcome. I have none of those ... but I do have organisational skills which are just as necessary: booking events, making sure the calendar is kept up to date, and collecting information, making signs and changing streams. It's not hard.

But we could do with some more help. We still need Greeters for Welcome and people to host events in the core. Just because we have no organised community management at the minute doesn't mean the community has died. We are still here, helping out and would appreciate any assistance anybody can offer.

As for the community dream - it's on hold a couple of months until a new model can be investigated.  We are still growing and hope that as we grow, more people will become involved in building a new Community Management Structure and C-Core can go back to where it belongs - with the citizens of 3RG.

Zinnia, 3RG Volunteer.
